Man Tests the Long-Range Accuracy of .44 Magnum Revolver at 1,000 Yards

Can Jerry Miculek really hit a 1,000-yard shot with a .44 Magnum revolver?

Long-range shooting is all the rage these days. We have watched countless videos of people ringing targets out to 1,000 yards or more. Many modern centerfire rifles have become so accurate, anyone can hit a 1,000-yard shot with a little coaching.

Maybe that is why the world's fastest shooter, Jerry Miculek, decided to make things more challenging.

In this video Jerry is using a Smith & Wesson 629 DX revolver chambered in .44 Magnum while using heavy 300-grain Hornady bullets to try and make a shot at 1,000 yards. We have seen Jerry do some amazing things, but he cannot possibly pull this one off. Right?

Well, we were very wrong on that one. Jerry is, without question, the king of exhibition shooting. We just had to shake our heads at his "It's better to be lucky than good line." Sorry Jerry, but no one who hits a balloon at 1,000 yards with a wheel gun in under six shots is "lucky." That is all skill.

One of the big reasons this stunt is so impressive is just the type of bullet. Most people making 1,000-yard shots with a centerfire gun are using bullets traveling at 2,500 to 3,000 feet per second. However, a 300-grain .44 Magnum is only traveling at about 1,200 feet per second. That is why there was so much delay between the shot and the impact of the bullet at that distance.

A heavier bullet traveling out of a shorter barrel also means a significant amount of drop will be added over such a long distance. Add in other variables like the swirling winds and it just makes this feat even more jaw-dropping.

Way to go Jerry, we do not know how you pull off these incredible shooting feats, but we do enjoy watching you pull them off!
