May this be your lesson to take all posted warning signs seriously. No matter how distressing the warning is, there is always at least one person who assumes the rules do not apply to them. Unfortunatley, ignoring posted signage can have drastic consequences. That was proven the other day when a man died after entering an off-limits section of a Hawaii national park.

People Magazine shared the disheartening news of one parkgoer's death. The 33-year-old man died after entering an off-limits section of a national park in Hawaii. The National Park Service (NPS) shared a news release on Tuesday, March 3, detailing the event. The release shared that park personnel responded to the incident on February 26. Additionally, they shared that the incident took place in "the area on the east side of K?lauea caldera within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park."
Although the volcano was not erupting at the time of the incident, it does not mean that the terrain was not dangerous. On the contrary, the release shared that the rescue teams had to conduct the rescue operation overnight in "steep and hazardous terrain." Despite finding the man the next day, the outcome did not look good. He was airlifted from the area and transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center. It was there that he was later pronounced deceased.
Rescue personnel notified the man's family, but are withholding the name from the public out of privacy considerations. Additionally, the unfortunate incident is being investigated. Finally, in their release, the NPS shares the importance of avoiding these off-limit sections of the park.
They wrote, "K?lauea caldera contains hazardous terrain, including unstable cliff edges and volcanic features. Visitors are reminded to remain in designated open areas and comply with all closures." Unfortunatley this has not been the first incident of visitors ignoring posted signage and or venturing into areas they should not be in a national park. Hopefully, others will learn from the tragic outcome of this event.
