Making a Traditional Swedish Fire Torch is Easy, and It'll Burn for Hours

This traditional Swedish fire torch is designed to burn for hours for wilderness camping, or just for some backyard fun.

Have a look at the making of a Swedish fire torch. It may well change the way you make camping and cooking fires!

The first time I saw this was on a program about Swedish moose hunters. They traditionally hunt in very large groups and often use dogs to track and push the moose towards shooters in stands. After each day of hunting they would occupy a wilderness camp and have a couple of these torches on hand made from old and dried stumps.

They had prepared these torches a year out with their chainsaws and left them in place at each projected camp to dry out over the year and be good and ready for use the next hunting season. A bit of kindling and lamp oil put in the cracks and they had all the heat, cooking surface and light they needed for their bush camps.

Try making your own Swedish fire torch and check out how sometimes old school methods can still be the best methods to get it done right in the wilderness.
