Look Out South Florida, Outboard Motor Theft is on the Rise

In South Florida, owning an expensive outboard may make you a target for criminals.

Reports of boat yards and individuals having their outboard motors stolen are on the rise in South Florida. Authorities say thiefs are targeting boat storage facilities and even private boat owners who leave their boat unattended for several days.

As you can see, the market for stolen outboards and even entire boats is quite prevalent within the marine repair industry. By simply scraping off the numbers of a stolen motor, the thief can make it impossible for authorities to track down the owner. This makes returning this type of stolen property extremely difficult.
