This wild nature video shows the crazy battle for a meal in South Africa.
The food chain is a crazy thing. Especially in South Africa where it isn't hard for many animals to end up a part of it. Of note here is Kruger National Park, a place where tourists are treated to life-and-death scenes straight out of a National Geographic wildlife documentary every day.
Some of these wild scenes are downright crazy and must be seen to believed. That's the case with this video that ridiculously escalates over the course of just four minutes.
The video starts off with a leopard that has caught a tasty impala for dinner. The big cat's catch is still fresh and kicking when some wild dogs happen to catch the scent and come in to steal the kill. As if that wasn't crazy enough, the dogs barely have a chance to enjoy an appetizer before some hyenas arrive on the scene!
Talk about a bad day to be that impala! This was one of the craziest wildlife videos we've seen out of Kruger National Park yet, which is saying something considering some of the zany videos that have hit the Internet from there in recent years.
This video demonstrates why leopards like to drag their kills up trees most of the time. It appears that's what this cat wanted to do, but the numbers game against all those wild dogs was too much to overcome and the leopard was forced to give up the kill. In the end, it was a combination of size and numbers that allowed the hyenas to enjoy the fruits of the big cat's labor.
"The hyenas finished off every shred of the impala except the head, within minutes, only stopping to fight with each other - and the largest female then made off with the head to a nearby open field," a quote in the video's description reads.
That's an unfortunate day for the leopard, she expended all that energy in catching that impala and it was all for naught. It just goes to show how brutal nature can be in South Africa where every day is a life or death struggle.
