After saying that they will not produce an SUV, Ferrari seems to have changed their mind.
In recent years, crossovers and SUVs have sold better than cars. In fact, Porsche produces more Macans and Cayennes annually than 911s, Caymans, and Boxsters. Lamborghini is developing and SUV, and it seems as if Ferrari wants to jump on the bandwagon.
Unfortunately, it seems as if Ferrari has decided that money takes precedence over their company's image, something they have meticulously maintained since the company's conception.
By making an SUV, Ferrari is going to dilute their image, as they will be producing a relatively high volume of vehicles to increase revenue. As Ferrari increases the amount of their vehicles on the road, they make the marque less exclusive.
As a result, their cars will inevitably sell for less, because they've effectively defaced the brand.
Jumping on the SUV bandwagon will not help Ferrari in the long run. Sure, it will bring profit in the short term, but in the long term, they will obliterate their reputation. We can only hope Ferrari doesn't go this route...
