Illinois DNR Officer Busts Bass Poachers on Coffeen Lake

These poachers were over the limit and under legal sizes.

While summer is definitely a slower time of year for conservation officers, that doesn't mean the poachers are taking a break. Officers need to stay on their toes as wildlife criminals start targeting species that aren't often taken illegally.

Case in point is an Illinois DNR officer last weekend who busted three men who were poaching largemouth bass at Coffeen Lake. The Montgomery County lake has a limit of three largemouths and they all have to be at least 15 inches.

The officer found the three men had 28 fish in their possession and 21 of them were under the legal size limit.

The officer subsequently cited the unnamed men for failing to release the undersized fish and for being over the daily limit. Hopefully next time these poachers will think twice before stealing natural resources we all share.
