How to Build a Shelter for Outdoor Cats When Its Cold

Winter can be difficult for outdoor cats. Whether they are feral, a stray, or simply a pet that spends more time outside than inside, prolonged exposure to the elements can be dangerous.

Fortunately, there's an easy way you can help keep the neighborhood cats safe and warm: insulated outdoor shelters!

These cozy shelters provide outdoor cats with a much-needed place to escape the cold. They are also very private, which is important for cats that are not comfortable around humans.

  • Styrofoam cooler
  • Straw

Now that you've made your shelter, it's time to decide where to place it!

Since many outdoor cats, especially ferals and strays, are not used to human interaction it's best to put the shelter in a quiet area away from pedestrian traffic.

If you're still unsure, keep an eye on the neighborhood cats and see where they like to hang out. This will give you a better idea of where a shelter is most needed.

Stay warm, kitties!
