Homemade Lemonade Moonshine for Those Hot Summer Days

Quench your summer thirst after a long day in the sun with this lemonade moonshine.

With summer finally in full swing across the country, this easy-to-make lemonade moonshine will become a fast favorite. There is nothing better after a long day full of outdoor activities than kicking back on the deck or patio with an ice cold drink.

If you are a fan of lemonade and drinks that pack an extra kick, this lemonade moonshine is perfect for you.

A mason jar full of ice and this tangy moonshine will help throw off the heat and humidity faster than a summer thunderstorm rolls in.

As a fair word of warning, this lemonade moonshine definitely packs a punch. The longer you let it sit, the better it will taste. However, that also means that you won't taste the alcohol as much even though it is still there.

So be careful when partaking in this summer refreshment and make sure to avoid confusing it with any non-alcoholic lemonade you might have in the house!

Lemonade Moonshine

Ingredients

  • 12 cups of water
  • 4 cups white sugar
  • 4 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (don't use that stuff that comes in the little plastic bottle)
  • 3-5 cups 190-proof Everclear (depends on how much of a kick you want!)
  • 6 quart-sized Mason jars
  • Large stock pot (or you can use a crock pot)
  • Plenty of ice and lemon slices for serving

For the high level of deliciousness this drink provides, it doesn't take much work to put together at all.

First you'll want to mix together the water and freshly squeezed lemon juice in your pot of choice. You can use a stock pot on the stove, but to make things even easier, you can also use a crock pot for this step. Once everything is mixed together well, put the solution over medium heat and slowly stir in the sugar until it complete dissolves. This should take about 5-10 minutes.

*If you are using a crockpot, combine the sugar, water, and lemonade together at the same time and turn the crock pot on high for two hours.

Once the sugar is dissolved, turn off the heat and allow the mixture to come back down to room temperature. This is an important step because adding the Everclear too early will lead to some of the alcohol evaporating out and we wouldn't want that now would we?

After the sugar water solution has cooled, mix in your desired amount of alcohol. If Everclear isn't easy to find in your area, you can substitute in vodka for a slightly less alcoholic, but equally as tasty, drink.

You are just about finished with your lemonade moonshine. All that's left is to pour the mixture into the Mason jars. You will be able to fill six quart jars and have about a half a pint of moonshine left over. That leftover amount is perfect to use as a taste test to make sure the batch is ready before opening the larger jars.

Let the jars sit in the refrigerator for as long as you can stand waiting. The longer it sits, the smoother it will taste. Serve over ice with a slice of lemon when you are ready to enjoy. If it tastes too tart, mix in a small amount of sugar to balance it out.

Once you have the basic recipe down, feel free to experiment a little bit with other additions. For example, puree some strawberries or blueberries and add the puree in at the same time as the alcohol before straining the mixture and jarring.

Please enjoy responsibly!
