Surviving in the wilderness is no easy feat, particularly in the freezing wilderness. Nevertheless, this 58-year-old man, whose name has yet to be released, managed to do so. A press release shared by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation shared the details of the rescue.

According to the release, "On Wednesday, February 25 at 8:45 p.m., Ray Brook Dispatch received a call from an individual reporting her spouse overdue in the Dix Range." The hiker's wife had called in claiming that her husband was past due for his time to return home. Apparently, the man had planned a two-day hike, but after his two days, he did not return.

The outlet shared that his last contact was "7:15 a.m., approximately six miles from the planned ending point." Additionally, during that contact, the man told his spouse he was tired and moving slowly. Luckily for him, she called it in, and the search began. By 9:50 p.m. that evening, Forest Rangers located the hiker's vehicle. This led to several Rangers searching throughout the night; their efforts were futile.
