People Magazine shared the details about Fillmore, the heroic pup who saved his family from a garage fire. The black-and-white German short-haired pointer was acting like his usual self, until suddenly he began barking. Nothing would calm the dog. Eventually, after his continued barks the family knew something was amiss.
They got up and looked out the window, and that is when they understood — Fillmore had been alerting them to danger. Outside their window, they saw flames flickering. In their Instagram post, OCFireAuthority shared that the family initially thought the fire was at their neighbors' house. However, upon further investigation, the family realized the fire was in their own garage.
Thanks to their pup's reaction, this family had time to act. They used their garden hoses to manage the flames until the fire department arrived for assistance. The fire department "quickly contained the flames to just the garage — saving the house." Later, the post shared that the "OCFA Heavy Fire Equipment Operators then removed the vehicles to allow safe access to extinguish the remaining hot spots."
After the threat was taken care of, the fire department wanted to make sure they honored the real hero of the day. "Before leaving, firefighters gave Fillmore some well-deserved attention!"
