Genesis Introduces the 2019 G70 to Its Lineup

While sedans may not be the talk of the industry right now, Genesis is on its way to changing that with the new G70.

The 2019 Genesis G70 was officially debuted to the U.S. market at the New York Auto Show. It's a performance-driven luxury compact sedan that sits right beneath its larger siblings, the G80 and G90.

According to Manfred Fitzgerald, the Global Head of Genesis, "The G70's U.S. debut is a very important milestone for Genesis. The G70 is all about the driver's experience. We look forward to how our youngest and most dynamic sedan will connect with our clientele through refined performance and athletic elegant design."

This luxury car offers up a performance that doesn't disappoint. In fact, engineers put the G70 through the ringer in "some of the world's most challenging environments, including Death Valley, northern Sweden, and Germany's vaunted Nürburgring Nordschleife, to ensure world-class driving dynamics and exceptional durability."

Beneath the sheet metal, there are two engines available. The 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder renders 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft- of torque, while the 3.3L twin-turbocharged V6 cranks out 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque.

Rear-wheel drives comes standard in this new Genesis, but all-wheel drive is an available option.

An eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters is the standard. If you're more of a traditionalist, a six-speed manual is offered in models with the 2.0L powertrain and rear-wheel drive.

The Gensis G70 is engineered to be more performance oriented, which is why it also features a MacPherson multi-link front and multi-link rear suspension and five drive modes that you can tune the ride to. Doing so adjusts powertrain response, steering weight, engine sound, suspension firmness and AWD torque distribution if equipped.

If you opt for the Dynamic Package, a mechanical limited slip differential that helps improve traction comes equipped.

In terms of safety, the G70 contains the Genesis Active Safety Control suite of features:

  • Forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection
  • Blind spot collision warning
  • Lane keeping assist
  • Driver attention warning

The athletic yet elegant design of the G70 is equally as alluring as its stablemates. The Genesis G70 boasts a long hood, short overhangs, a high beltline, and a fluid roofline. Of course, the Genesis Crest Grille is equipped along with linear LED daytime running lights.

Eight exterior colors are offered: Victoria Black, Casablanca White, Himalayan Gray, Santiago Silver, Adriatic Blue, Mallorca Blue, Havana Red and Siberian Ice.

Inside, drivers will revel in quilted Napp leather seats, soft-touch surfaces, and genuine brushed aluminum touches. Stainless steel speaker grilles are offered, as is an optional Lexicon® audio system with QuantumLogic® surround-precessing technology.

Luc Donckerwolke, the Head of Genesis Design, comments, "The G70 is designed to captivate all senses with tensioned, muscular exterior, and rich, tactile interior." And from the looks of it, he's spot on.

The G70 is just the first of the six new models from the Genesis brand that will launch by 2021.

Expect to see this beauty in showrooms over the summer.
