Forget pineapples on pizza, have you tried iguana meat? A Florida restaurant is going viral for selling perhaps the most bizarre pizza you've ever heard of. Is it a genius move or a war crime against your tongue? That's up to you to decide.
Bucks Coal Fired in North Palm Beach, Florida is selling iguana meat pizza. The restaurant confirmed the new menu item on February 2. It's new pizza called The Everglade will include iguana meat. That's due to a recent cold snap in the area. It's literally called iguanas to fall out of the trees. According to Ryan Izquierdo, the cold causes the iguanas to "enter a state of paralysis where their muscles stop working, their body shuts down, and their heart rate slows down to survive."
Iguana Meat Pizza
They "just end up falling from the trees." The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) urged the public to turn in any found reptiles. But Izquierdo says that he's been hunting them. So far, he's collected more than 90.
"We were able to do good work and remove the iguanas and educate people, and it was just a great time," Izquierdo told CBS News. Those collected iguanas became an ingredient for the eatery's pizzas. He "used the legs and the tail for the pizza." He also said that he "sanitized the meat, everything was good to go, and we just put the pizza together."
Besides iguana meat, the pizza also includes olive oil, parmesan, ranch, bacon, and venison. But iguana meat is what will get people talking. Even Izquierdo said, "That s—- looks crazy." He said, "The iguana meat really tastes like frog leg. It's a little bit sweet, I can't really describe it."
Besides a pizza, he's also made an iguana meat omlette as well.
"People in the comments are so grossed out," he said. "I'm like, 'It literally tastes like legitimate chicken eggs.'"
