American Airlines has been at the heart of some online debates for quite some time now. Oftentimes, many fliers feel as if the airline is ripping them off. This has been particularly true for loyalty program members. However, American Airlines finally released some good news for these members, and it may have saved face with their customers.
American Airlines Releases Good News For Loyalty Program Members

In an attempt to regain popularity with its client base, American Airlines has dropped some exciting news. The NY Post revealed that the airline is planning to launch "free in-flight Wi-Fi" for its loyalty program members. The airline announced that this free Wi-Fi is in "partnership with telecom firm AT&T." This is great news all around. Wi-Fi, in my opinion, is essential for a happy flight.
This is particularly true if the flight is several hours long. Not only can you then seamlessly watch your shows or films, but many people also need it to work as well. In this new digital era, many people take long flights as a perfect opportunity to get some work done. Without Wi-Fi, that seems almost impossible. So this new advancement definitely takes some of the hassle out of travel - that is, of course, only if you are enrolled in the carrier's loyalty program.
Nevertheless, people are finally cheering when they hear American Airlines now.
American Airlines Hasn't Been That Popular Lately
This positive announcement by the airline was completely necessary after they recently angered their customers with a different announcement. Just a short while ago, American Airlines made an announcement that made it look increasingly greedy. They admitted that they were planning to "cut its program awarding bonus miles and other travel perks to passengers who purchase a basic economy ticket."
Naturally, many people were angered by this. After all, business and first-class tickets aren't cheap. So to say that you are only offering rewards or perks to those who can afford the top tier angered many clients. They felt that, ironically, there was no sense of loyalty in the loyalty program. I am assuming that the airline is now trying to backwalk some of the resentment with this new, more uplifting announcement.
