People Magazine shared some of the details surrounding the unfortunate accident. Simone Bacchiega was considered an expert skydiver. The 51-year-old was from Cremona, Italy, and had a passion for skydiving. According to the outlet, he had successfully "completed more than 600 parachute jumps" before this fatal last experience.
The Jam Press shared that Bacchiega lost his life in the tragic skydiving accident on March 25. During this jump, he was testing out a new parachute. According to People Magazine, Bacchiega was jumping at the Is Paulis airfield in Sardinia, Italy. "He attempted the skydive from an altitude of over 13,000 feet."
All seemed to be going well at first, until the father of two had to adjust his course. Reports indicate that when the skydiver was about 130 feet from the ground, he "allegedly made a sudden turn to adjust his landing." It was at this moment that things took a turn for the worse. During this turn, Bacchiega lost control of his parachute and plummeted to the ground below.
According to Jam Press, a witness to the tragic skydiving accident believes that "crosswinds may have played a role in the incident." The outlet also shared details regarding the new parachute that the skydiver was testing. He was using a "Crossfire 109 high-performance skydiving canopy."
After Bacchiega plummeted to the ground, emergency services arrived within minutes. Unfortunatley, despite their speedy arrival and immediate CPR, nothing could be done to revive the father of two. The skydiver is survived by a son and a daughter. Additionally, People Magazine shared that the "prosecutor's office seized Bacchiega's equipment for an investigation." Everyone wants answers as to why jump 601 turned into a tragic skydiving accident. Currently, Italian police have not offered any additional information.
