When traveling to Disney World, one of the things you can expect to encounter is long lines. After all, it is the happiest place on earth, meaning a ton of people will want to be there. Fortunately, Disney has thought of ways to beat those long lines and offers ways to tackle them. Unfortunately, those line-beating methods are not free, and they appear to be forever changing, so you never truly know what to expect. In fact, Disney fans are currently furious, as 2026 has brought more changes to the Lightning Lane process and its rules.

As someone who remembers the free paper fast passes, I can understand the grievances that come with ever-changing technology. It was so much simpler to walk up to a kiosk, push a button, and get a little receipt telling you when to come back for the ride. Now you need to download an app, pay money, and wake up at the crack of dawn in an attempt to score a way to beat the line at your favorite attraction.
Nevertheless, Lightning Lane can still be worth it if it saves you hours of waiting in line. Currently, there are two types of Lightning Lane available for purchase. There is the Lightning Lane Multi-pass, which allows guests to reserve times for several attractions within a single park up to 7 days in advance (if you are staying on Disney property). If you stay off the property, you may reserve your spot up to 3 days in advance.
Then there is the Lightning Lane Single Pass, which lets you reserve a spot for a single ride. Specifically, the Single Pass applies to only the most in-demand attractions such as Avatar Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom, TRON Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom, or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Epcot, to name a few. Both options cost money, but naturally, the Multi-pass costs more because you receive access to multiple attractions.
What's Changing And Why Disney Fans Are Furious
The main thing that is changing is something that has been a consistent change over the years: the price. The cost of Lightning Lane has and continues to jump with each passing year. However, despite grumbles of protest, Disney fans keep paying to skip the lines. The cost of the Multi-pass changes depending on time and demand, whereas the Single-Pass remains steadily high as it affects high-demand attractions.
Nevertheless, people are valuing their time over their money as they cough up the cash to avoid the lines. Which brings us to the main reasons Disney fans are furious in 2026: the standby lines are abysmal. Disney lines have always been long, but according to Inside the Magic, the lines in 2026 are a different beast entirely. Fifty-plus-minute wait times are becoming the new norm, which means that expensive Lightning Lane passes are no longer nice-to-have items but more like need-to-have items, and that makes people mad.
After already paying a pretty penny for your Disney vacation, the last thing you want to do is feel like you have to cough up more cash daily just so you don't waste your entire day standing in line. However, people recognize that this is not about to change because, despite Disney fans being frustrated, they all continue to pay up.
