Chemical producer and marketer BASF has unveiled new research that predicts popular future car colors.
Part of its annual Automotive Color Trends 2018-2019 report, BASF has come up with 65 colors predicted to become popular across multiple regions.
Among its high-level findings are blue as a replacement to white, black, and silver/gray, today's most popular colors, a byproduct of our constant exposure to blue lighting from cell phones among other consumer behaviors that are believed to influence taste over time.

A second red color, "Kleur," is also predicted to rise in popularity, due to its high self-driving LiDAR visibility, reflective of the growing popularity of self-driving cars. Self-driving cars require more visible colors to make it more noticeable with its light-based mapping systems.
Other vehicles will sport more "energy efficient" lighter colors in warmer regions.
