California Mountain Lion Kittens Discovered in Sonoma County

Three California mountain lion kittens were discovered by researchers in Sonoma County.

Researchers found the California mountain lion kittens near Glen Allen. The 10-day old kittens, at the time, are part of a research project conducted by Audubon Canyon Ranch mountain lion research team. The team has been tracking a mountain lion for nearly seven months now.

The kittens are seen in their den in this short clip filmed by the researchers.

The female designated, P1, was first collared in October. The team believes the feline to be ten years old. When they first collared her, she was with two offspring estimated to be just under one year old. One was a male and one female.

The research team collared the female offspring before the two dispersed on their own.

"We now know that at the advanced age of 10, P1 has successfully had another litter of kittens - three this time. This is possibly her fifth litter," said lead researcher Dr. Quinton Martins after finding the den.
