Kayak Angler Lands Two Bass on Same Cast Using a Bird Lure

No angler is a stranger to just how voracious a largemouth bass' appetite. The prized game fish will eat anything and everything they can fit into their mouths, which most commonly includes minnows, bluegills, shad, insects, crawfish, and frogs. However, they'll also target smaller animals, such as mice and birds, should they tread bass-infested waters. So, why aren't there more lures designed to look like birds that could be part of a bass' diet? While we don't have an answer backed by certainty, the Fish Whisperer decided to explore this topic a little more deeply, as he lands bass after bass with a topwater bird lure. In fact, at one point, he actually catches two on the same cast! The double catch happens about three minutes into the video if you're short on time.

Well, we're sold on this lure after watching that. Talk about an action-packed video! This lure has some incredible topwater action that these bass simply couldn't resist. Sometimes it's just a matter of tossing something the fish have never seen before to find success on a slow day. The double catch alone would have made my day regardless of the size of the fish, as you just don't see that very often.

We were amazed by how many strikes he had up close next to the kayak. The fish were clearly in a feeding mood and he had the right lure and presentation for the situation. It's telling when two fish end up hooked on your lure simultaneously that you are doing something right. This makes us wonder how effective other lures closely matching native birds would fare in our home waters. Perhaps there's a whole niche of lure making that many manufacturers are missing out on by focusing on the usual bass prey items.
