Anheuser-Busch is stepping up its efforts to go green, save green, and totally redo the beer shipping industry.
The shipping industry has seen a huge shift away from traditional methods in recent years and decades. Autonomous technology is now taking over trucking and now companies are looking to go green and save some cash by using alternative fuel vehicles to get their orders in. Anheuser-Busch is now reporting that it's reserving up to 800 hydrogen semi trucks to take care of part of its shipping orders around the country.
In recent months, big name companies like Pepsi have been getting in on rethinking how they get their orders trucked across the United States. From Tesla cutting out a corner of the trucking market to Amazon even developing its own unit in this area, trucking isn't the same anymore. Hydrogen semi trucks are just the latest effort to be more economical in terms of the bottom line while enhancing innovation and fuel efficiency.
Fueling the Future
Autonews.com just reported that Anheuser-Busch's new plans include reserving up to 800 hydrogen semi trucks manufactured by Nikola Motors Co. This is all part of bigger plans to totally convert its dedicated long-haul fleet to renewable powered trucks by 2025. This rings similar to UPS reserving Tesla semi trucks, as mentioned above, and other major carriers finding ways to reduce costs through converting their semi lineups.
This trend seems to be picking up steam while other technologies, like self-driving trucks, are coming into play. Volkswagen and Daimler are making similar plans like the hydrogen semi trucks order from A-B. The beer-making company plans to integrate the trucks into its fleet by 2020 featuring hydrogen semi-trucks that can go between 500-1,200 miles on a single fuel-up. This will save tons of time off the schedule of a long haul.
Blood on the Highways
How much will this all cost? Well, either company is not saying the total, but Nikola has stated that it charges about $400,000 for its trucks. That's no small ticket item, which means that A-B is really putting some big chips on the table.
Nikola is in a fist fight with Tesla (hilarious that if you put the two companies names' together you get the full name of the original pioneer himself), the latter promising 500 miles on a single charge for its electric semis, and even has part of its reservations made by Anheuser-Busch.
