Florida Cops Are Banning Twerking at One Popular Beach

Florida cops are shutting the music down. They've banned twerking at one popular beach after things got too wild over the weekend. It resulted in officers showing up with paintball guns and pepper spray.

"No twerking! You will be charged with disorderly conduct!" one officer shouted at Spring Breakers dancing. The scene happened at Panama City Beach amid a pretty wild Spring Break in the state. The city has begun to crack down on partying in recent years.

"You can't drink on the beach in PCB. You can't even have coolers. And there's an 8 p.m. curfew," said Emory Gill, a local.

"Five years ago, spring break was absolutely crazy. But what we did was create this curfew and a campaign with the #ComeGetYourKids to encourage parents to keep track of their unaccompanied minors," Kevin Boyle, general manager of the Seaside Community Development Corporation, also told the New York Post.

Florida Cracks Down

Tommy Ford, sheriff of Bay County, explained the recent crackdown. Locals are tired of Spring Breakers descending to their beaches in the thousands. These takeovers have gotten rowdy in recent years.

"When you have thousands of people showing up in one place, there are some with guns. There are gangbangers. And you have crowd dynamics where someone pulls out a gun, and it causes a stampede," Ford told The Post. But why target twerking?

Well, the sheriff says its not twerking, but what twerking represents.

Twerking "is not inherently against the law unless it becomes lewd or if there is a noise ordinance complaint," Ford said. So you can indeed move your behind. But you better do it in a non-lewd way or face the strong arm of the law. Florida is making its stance clear this year. Its tired of out of control Spring Break parties. So go dancing somewhere else.
