Dog Lucky To Be Alive After Eating Razor Blade From The Trash

A dog is lucky to be alive after accidentally eating a razor blade from the trash on New Year's Eve. The English bull terrier had to have emergency surgery to save its life.

Teme Veterinary Practice in the UK explained what happened on Facebook. A 5-month-old dog named Charlie ate a razor blade.

"His owners had thought he'd eaten this and contacted us straight away," read the caption. "However, due to the risk of making him sick due to the object, we waited until the next day where this would then definitely be in the stomach if he had eaten it."

An X-ray confirmed that Charlie had eaten the 1.5 inch razor blade from the trash. The only option to save the dog was emergency surgery. The vet team quickly found the object and removed it.

"He recovered really well from his surgery and went home the same day," the post continued. "Our nursing team has seen him today, and we can report he is back to his cheeky self and full of beans."

Meanwhile, the dog's owner, Richard Johnson, spoke out about the incident. The dog ate the razor blade while trying to eat leftovers from a sandwich in the bin. "We have a stair gate to stop him [from] going upstairs, but it had been left open, and he was straight up and in the bin," he recalled.
He was relieved that Charlie was going to be okay after the incident.

Johnson added, "Once they operated and removed it, we were so relieved to discover that I had at least put the cover back on the blade. It could have been so much worse if I hadn't."

In a statement to the outlet, a spokesperson from Teme Vets stated, "We think Charlie's New Year's resolutions should start with not eating things he shouldn't."
