If you are on social media, you've probably seen at least one video featuring a granny and a bear. I have seen this adorable woman all over Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. While I had hoped the videos were real, I always had my suspicions. First and foremost, because the scene was truly so bizarre, after all, it is not every day you see an old woman spoon-feeding a massive bear. Now, an AI consultant has weighed in and proved once and for all how the viral bodycam footage of granny and the bear is AI-generated.
Viral Bodycam Footage Of Granny And Bear Is AI-Generated
@soralifeofficial
People Magazine shares that the adorable yet shocking clip of the woman and the bear has gained more than 44 million views. The footage appears to be from the body camera of a police officer, who politely scolds the woman for feeding the wildlife. The video begins with the officer stating, "Ma'am, I need you to step back from the animal." He proceeds to explain, "You realize it is against the ordinance to feed wildlife?" However, Granny doesn't seem too phased by the officer's request.
She responds with, "It's not just a wildlife officer, that's Benny." The woman offers that statement as if that were an explanation enough. Then, she continues to explain her loving relationship with the bear. "He's been coming by for eight winters. I look after him." Meanwhile, Benny, the bear in question, was happily munching away from a massive food dish throughout the entire conversation.
Expert Argues It Is AI
People Magazine shares Jeremy Carrasco's, a director and AI consultant, opinion on the video. According to Jeremy, this video is definitely AI-generated. First and foremost, he argued that the Sora watermark on the video is a dead giveaway. However, I have seen this clip multiple times, and it did not always have that watermark. So, how could you tell that this bodycam footage of granny and a bear is AI otherwise? Jeremy says there are several ways. First, he argues that the footage being from the bodycam is a potential giveaway.
He explains that "AI mimics lower-quality footage, like what you would expect from a security camera, body cam, or doorbell camera, well." Then, he points out some inconsistencies within the footage. In this video, he noticed the following:
- The screen didn't fit the door it was attached to.
- There were suspended ropes leading to nowhere near the woman.
- The cooking utensils in her hand seemed unnaturally wobbly.
Not to mention that the account that posted the video was full of other AI-generated content.
The Internet Loves Granny And Benny
Despite the video being proven to be AI, the internet absolutely adores the video. Here were some of the comments left underneath.
- "WHO TF called the police on Nana and Benny?"
- "Benny has not eaten her in 8 winters he's not going to now ?."
- "Benny is just having dinner with his grandma. Leave them alone Officer."
- ""He's dangerous" as she's spoon feeding him ??"
- "Benny: She's not dangerous, she's my grandma"
- "She said, "That's my "GrandBear!!" ?."
- "Benny licking the spoon mid lecture ?."
