2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Begins a Slow Tease By Revealing Its Interior

Forty years after the original, the slow-tease reveal for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class has started. Here's what the inside looks like.

In the always-changing SUV market, Mercedes-Benz has done an incredible job keeping its G-Class relevant among luxury buyers and off-road enthusiasts since the SUV debuted in 1979. With the current version dating back to 1990, the all-new 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class looks to inject more luxury and technology, which is evident by a handful of photos released by Mercedes.

If you've seen the cabin of newer Mercedes-Benz products like the S-Class or E-Class, you will instantly recognize the interior of this new G-Class.

For starters, it's impossible to miss that full-width digital screen (two 12.3-inch displays) for the gauge cluster and infotainment system, but the SUV also has familiar elements such as the three-spoke steering wheel, round HVAC vents and the mouse-like COMAND controller. About the only carryover cue from the current G-Class is the massive grab handle on the passenger side of the instrument panel, which is necessary for an SUV that has up to 630 horsepower and has no problem going off-road.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will be larger than the current model offering improved passenger space and comfort. Most importantly, rear seat legroom has increased by 5.9 inches, but legroom, headroom and elbow room has increased significantly for all occupants. In true Mercedes fashion, the front seats provide features such as massaging seat bottoms and backs, heated and cooled functions and numerous ways of power adjustability.

New interior packages - Exclusive Interior and Exclusive Interior Plus - bring an almost customizable level of selection to the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class. To the point that Mercedes promises "there are so many variants for the new G-Class that it is extremely rare for any two cars to be exactly alike."

Judging by the release of interior photos, we might see some images (or at least teasers) showing the updated exterior design ahead of the official introduction at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will go on sale in the U.S. by late 2018.
