How to Build Your Own Party Barge This Summer

Who needs a pontoon when you can cheaply build your own party barge this summer?

Money didn't stop these ambitious guys from having an awesome summer. Instead of buying a pontoon boat, they opted to build their own party barge using old pallets and some barrels.

Sure, there's some assembly required and it's mostly just a floating dock. But this is a huge improvement to the type of raft Huckleberry Finn built. If you can get your hands on old pallets or plastic barrels for free, why wouldn't you put them to good use and make a nice party barge for you and your friends to enjoy?

Party Barge Instructions

Collect all your materials, which include pallets, old plastic drums, ratchet straps and some miscellaneous lumber. Lay out your pallets and pry the boards off the bottoms of several, which will form your deck platforms. Make sure to remove all the nails, and you may even want to sand them down a bit to avoid splinters in your feet.

Cut and add some crossbeams to the bottom of the decking to make a platform in sections.

Next, use cheap ratchet straps to secure the barrels to the bottom of the platform.

Once built, take it apart in sections and head out to your favorite fishing hole! Then, just reassemble it at the lake in the same fashion.

Don't forget to add your necessary entertainment items, like coolers, canopies, chairs, tables, fishing rods etc.

It may be heavy and difficult to maneuver, but once you anchor down somewhere, it's really just a platform to serve as your party barge. Celebrate by toasting to an amazing summer!

When the season's over, you can just disassemble and store it in your garage or shed.
