Bald Eagle Performs Snatch-and-Grab on Angler's Pike

Pay attention or you might miss it, as this brief video shows a bald eagle swooping in to snatch a pike from an unlucky angler.

An ice angler on the Connecticut River in Fairlee, Vermont, was ready with his camera when a bald eagle swooped down and snatched his northern pike off the ice.

The man told reporters the eagle has stolen fish from anglers before, but this time, the fisherman was prepared to catch the thief in the act.

Bald eagles are primarily fish eaters, though they'll also eat other animals and carrion. We have several bald eagles that live on our lake, and I've seen them fly right above the water, snatching fish that come too close to the surface. I've also seen them dining on fish ice fishermen have left on the ice.

I've even seen one swoop down to grab a running squirrel!
