The two wood grouse got one heck of a surprise from an uninvited visitor.
Animals ranging from black bears to whitetail deer will fight each other over issues like breeding rights and food sources. Western capercaillie, also known as wood grouse, are no different.
However, predator species are known to take advantage of the situation. Sometimes an unexpected guest will attempt to swoop in and pick off an easy meal when two other animals are busy fighting each other and not paying enough attention to their surroundings.

You should have run when you had the chance!
That second grouse demonstrated that it clearly had more guts than brains when it tried to pick a fight with the eagle that just killed its rival. Just like grouse everywhere, wood grouse are a favored prey species for many predators.
Wood grouse are the biggest species of grouse in the world, but they're still no match for a golden eagle.
