YETI Coolers Severs Ties With NRA Foundation

Calls to boycott the cooler company are heating up, but is there more to this story?

YETI, makers of premium-grade and popular coolers, have cut ties with the NRA (National Rifle Association) Foundation, igniting immediate backlash from gun owners and outdoor folk alike. But was the anger warranted?

Following in the footsteps of United Airlines and Avis, who are among a growing list of companies to sever their relationship with the NRA, news that YETI would no longer be a vendor hit the media April 20.

Confirmation of the breakup came through a letter, written by Marion P. Hammer, past NRA President and USF Executive Director, and posted to the NRA-ILA (Institute for Legislative Action) website and sent as an email to members:

Reaction to the news was swift and condemning, with thousands of negative messages posted throughout social media streams, including YETI's Facebook page.

Calls to boycott the company were the main theme. Images posted to social media and meant to be shared sprung up quickly.

YETI released an official statement at 2:30 p.m. April 23 , disputing the NRA claims:
