There's no better heavyweight battle than a wild wolf and pit bull. Regarding animal behavior, there are no more assertive or dominant species than the wolf. They have a clear pecking order and pack mentality that transcends breeds of domestic dogs. However, there is a well-known American breed with a nasty streak a mile wide. Enter a pit bull terrier ready to show a wild wolf a thing or two about canine behavior and dominance in the animal kingdom. Here's the video:
While the video is a little grainy, it still appears to be an actual wolf that comes into the scene, and quite aggressively at that. It ultimately leaves with its tail tucked between its legs. It did seem to be hunting the dog at first, not knowing what it was getting itself into. That wolf learned not all creatures in its world are prey animals.
Fortunately, these two didn't do any actual fighting, and both walked away with all their skin. There's no doubt the pit bull got lucky. According to the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources, dog owners can take the following steps to avoid wolf-dog conflicts:
- Learn to identify coyote and dog tracks so you can distinguish them from wolf tracks.
- Add bells or noisemakers to dog collars.
- Keep up-to-speed on wolf sightings in your area.
That wolf who learned not all creatures in its world are prey animals.
