The NY Post shared details about the surprise encounter. The hunter was 19-year-old Carson Bender. He had set up at the base of a tree and was just trying to enjoy some turkey hunting near Nekoosa. All was going well until he decided to look over his shoulder. It wasn't a turkey that he saw lurking there.

Instead, it was a wild bobcat. Rather than being shaken to his core, the 19-year-old decided to record the encounter. Then, he posted the video on Instagram. The teen was calling turkeys and apparently was so good at it that he captured the predator's attention. In the video, you can see the shock on his face as he turns the camera and notices the animal sneaking up behind him.

The bobcat seems determined but slightly confused. The teen sounds like a turkey, but clearly doesn't look like one. Nevertheless, the bobcat begins to stalk him, silently creeping up behind him. After locking in on him for a few moments, the bobcat decided to take the chance and strike.

The teen was attacked by the bobcat when it lunged towards him in a flash. The animal grabbed hold of Benson's arm before the video went black. The NY Post shared that the teen admitted he was able to successfully shake the animal off.

The Internet Reacts

Of course, the internet reacted to a teen being attacked by a bobcat — who wouldn't? Here are some of the comments that were left under the Instagram video.

  • "I'm sorry if he could see him sneaking up on him why didn't you turn around and make a bear sound to scare him so he would run away. I'm pretty sure if you made a really loud noise than it would've scared him and it would've run away."
  • "Lesson for all—NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON A WILD CAT—they will instinctually pounce on you. (I know this crept up on him. Glad he's okay. Very fortunate.)"
  • "Wow! Video of the day! Bob is a very skilled hunter - he never made a sound on all that dry grass. I'm glad the hunter is ok, and I hope Bob is as well."
