Heron gulps down a gator meal in only seconds!
Generally, if you hear of a bird/alligator encounter, you wouldn't think the bird would come out on the winning end of that deal.
That's not the case in this cool footage out of Melbourne, Florida, where the food chain is turned on end as a baby gator falls prey to a blue heron.
While it took only seconds for the heron to gulp down its meal, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute noted in their Facebook post of the video that the heron took its time leading up to that moment.
"The great blue heron 'played' with the little gator for at least twenty minutes before killing and swallowing it," said photographer Scott Martin, the man who took the video.
Boy, some animals can be cruel, can't they? Until they grow up, baby gators are pretty vulnerable to predators and this video definitely proves that!
The blue heron never ceases to amaze me. I've seen these birds snag frogs and even full-grown sunfish from the water before, but an alligator is something else altogether!
