Watch This Evolution of the Jeep Brand

Check out this short video showing the evolution of the iconic off-roading brand from the battled-tested Willys MA to the trail-rated JK Wrangler.

To celebrate its 75th anniversary last year, Jeep created a short video showing the evolution of the brand over its eight decades in existence.

Although most notable Jeep products make an appearance in the video, several key models - such as the CJ-5, the original SJ Cherokee and the Comanche - were left out.

Perhaps the best part of the video are the comparisons from the Willys MA and MB military vehicles to the civilian CJ-2A.

As much fun as it is to look at Jeep past, there are definitely big things in store for Jeep's future including the all-new 2019 Wrangler coming next year and the return of the Grand Wagoneer name as a full-size, three-row SUV.

Not shown in the video, though, is how many times the Jeep brand has changed hands over the years. Willys-Overland along with Bantam and Ford were responsible for the creation of the military Jeep, but soon after the war, the brand was under the ownership of Kaiser from 1953 until American Motors Corporation took over in 1970.

In 1987, Chrysler Corporation acquired Jeep through the purchase of AMC, and Daimler-Benz did the same thing in 1998 through a "merger of equals." After DaimlerChrysler fell apart, a private equity company firm took over Chrysler's brands, and finally Fiat showed up to save the day in 2009.

Recent reports have suggested that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) might be looking to sell off the Jeep brand, but CEO Sergio Marchionne has rejected these rumors.
