It's not very often you get to see an elk. It's even rarer to see a herd of elk.
It's rarer still to be completely surrounded by a huge herd of elk jumping fences to get across a road.

All the bulls have already shed their antlers, but see if you can differentiate the bulls from the cows.
Since the the largest North American member of the deer family, these elk had no trouble standing out. There were so many, the camera was hard to hold still!
Herd movements happen yearly, but the autumn is the best time to encounter something like this.
