A surfer in Australia is returning to the sport despite losing his leg in a shark attack. Nothing, not even something traumatizing like that, could keep him from the sea.
The surfer, Kai McKenzie, shared a video on Instagram with a prothetic leg. He then hit the waves for the first time since he lost his leg in 2024. Back then, he was attacked by a shark while out in the ocean.
"I lost my leg but I didn't lose surfing ? ? @tobycregan @joshuatabone #adapt #abovekneeamputee #prothetic #sharkattack," his caption read.
Bethany Hamilton, who infamously lost her left arm to a shark, shared words of encouragement for the surfer. She herself know what it feels like to surf with a disability. "I feel like everyone kinda knows that this is extremely hard... But above the knee amputation is next level challenging so what Kai is doing right here is absolutely next level!!! So stoked for you Kai!!!," she wrote.
