Oshkosh Defense beat out both Lockheed Martin and the company that designed the Humvee, AM General, for the contract.

The defense company will eventually make 50,000 JLTVs for the Army and 5,500 more for the Marines.

The JLTV will allow troops to move over ground at speeds 70 percent higher than the current fastest vehicle used by the military. That speed in addition to the rugged design and increased safety potential should make a lot of soldiers very happy with the JLTV.
