Rattlesnake, Cottonmouth Face Off in a Battle of Nature's Nastiest Serpents

The cottonmouth, otherwise known as the water moccasin, is an opportunistic predator. The rattlesnake is an efficient and specialized killer. What happens when they go up against each other in the wild? YouTuber ojatro published a video that will provide answers to all of those questions, and it unquestionably lives up to the hype. This footage may be slightly graphic to some, but Mother Nature will never hold back for the faint of heart. But, you probably already knew that when you saw the headline.

Which will you put your money on?

If you blinked, you may have missed that initial strike. And, it was pretty much over from there. Size may have played a factor, but he who strikes first usually gets the upper hand.

The water snakes are among the most venomous in North America, and a snakebite from an Eastern diamondback, which this rattler appears to be, can kill quickly the victim doesn't seek treatment immediately.

Pit vipers and cottonmouths are both common to Texas and spread widely east to Florida. Rattlesnakes especially thrive in the southwestern United States. Be sure to prepare yourself with a strategy should you ever enter snake country, as a bite from one of many venomous snakes out there can be devastating. And remember, a young snake is a particularly deadly snake, as they've yet to learn how to properly disperse their venom. Spring and early summer host the largest number of baby snakes due to the timing of typical breeding seasons.

Each of these incredible creatures offered an unbelievable spectacle for those of us to languish in curiosity as to how different predators would hypothetically fare against one another. The next time the rattlesnake vs. cottonmouth question gets brought up, you can send this video and quickly put the argument to rest.
