An Oscar-winning Disney animator had to be rescued from a mountain hike by helicopter. Glen Keane got in trouble while hiking in Paradise Valley, Arizona.
He fell ill while out and about. Phoenix emergency responders came to his aid on July 29 at the top of Mummy Mountain. Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller told AZFamily that the Disney animator was in distress. Reportedly, he begain feeling dizzy. Keane found that he couldn't walk back down the mountain after hiking with his grandchildren.
"I knew that I really needed help," Keane said. He approached an area where he found it was just too difficult for himself to continue. First responders ended up lifting the Disney animator out of Mummy Mountain with a helicopter. However, he declined to go to the hospital when he made it back to safety.
"I was being lifted up [in the helicopter], and I was looking at all the areas that I used to climb around as a kid. And I thought, Lord, thank you. This was just a real blessing to have that crew," Keane told AZFamily. "And they were really risking their own lives on the edge of that narrow little ledge. I mean, it was very much just like a razor's edge up there."
Disney Animator Rescued from Mountain Hike
The Phoenix Fire Department shared video of the rescue on Facebook, but many were not kind.
"You need to do a gut check and say, 'Hey listen, is it really smart for me to be out on this trail when it's 93 degrees at seven in the morning?' " Keller told the outlet.
