A Norwegian Cruise Line is garnering backlash over what some are calling an "idiotic" dining rule. Apparently, the cruise line has some strict dress code rules regarding what passengers can and cannot wear.
According to its policy page, shorts and flip flops are banned inside the ship's restaurants such as Palomar, Ocean Blue, Onda, Cagney's, Le Bistro, and Haven. It's a headscratcher for many considering the cruise line frequently goes to warm places. Many find it odd for the ship to have such strict dress rules.
One person complained, "Do not like the new rules for some of the restaurant venues. I am on VACATION, in a warm weather climate, wearing a collard shirt and nice SHORTS. Been on 15 cruises with Norwegian, loved the relaxed style. Tell the fuddy daddies where to go. You will loose me as a customer going to this NEW IDIOTIC RULE. I can see no tank tops, cut off jeans, but no shorts is ridiculous."

Others agreed with the frustrated passenger.
One wrote, "Agreed!! Nice shorts, nice collared shirt.. should be allowed when on a Caribbean or other warm weather cruise!! Who wants to pack pants for only a couple night for just dinner?!!"
Another wrote, "Dressing up on vacation for dinner in 90 degrees heat locations is stupid."
Meanwhile, another pointed out that the ruling is a bit more nuanced. They wrote, "Dress code is ONLY Le Bistro French Restaurant and Cagneys...no flip flops NOTE...Flip Flop DRESS SANDALS ALLOWED!!! no shorts or tank tops...always has been...I'm a 10 year veteran ncl only cruiser."
Additionally, Norwegian Cruise Line reached out to the frustrated passenger hoping to address their concerns. They wrote, "Hi, we appreciate your feedback as it is valuable to us. If there is anything else we can do to assist you, please don't hesitate to call us directly at 1-800.327.7030."
However, if you're frustrated with the policy, others pointed out that other cruise lines don't have the same rules.
One wrote, "I think Carnival is ok with shorts."
