Maryland Poacher Pleads Guilty to Additional Charges in Poaching of 17-Point Buck

A poacher who trespassed onto his neighbor's property and baited a potential-state-record buck has pleaded guilty to additional charges in the case.

A press release from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources stated 29-year-old Ronald Wayne Roe pleaded guilty to trespassing and hunting without permission in Kent County Circuit Court.

Roe had already pleaded guilty to multiple illegal hunting charges for the 17-point buck last February when he received an order to pay $5,000 in restitution and perform 80 hours of community service.

For the latest charges, Roe received a jail sentence of 60 days suspended. However, he'll have 18 months of unsupervised probation.

The case of this monster buck, which scored 212 7/8, goes back to September 2016 when Roe baited and shot the buck on his neighbor Joseph Bogdan's property. At first, Roe told DNR officials he had shot the buck on his property and it ran to the neighbors.

However, a DNR officer investigating the case discovered a bait pile, a treestand and a blood trail leading from the bait to where the buck was found and field dressed. Friends of Roe later admitted they helped Roe drag the buck over to his property past numerous "no trespassing" signs.

It was a big blow for Bogdan, who'd been pursuing the buck for a few years. The press release states Bogdan even congratulated Roe on getting the buck, only to later find out it had been poached on his land.

Had Roe used a crossbow, it would've been a new state record for Maryland.
