A man is speaking out after losing his leg in a devastating shark attack while on his honeymoon.
31-year-old Borja Garcia Sousa went on his honeymoon to the Maldives. While in the water, he was attacked by a shark. Writing on Instagram, he shared his thoughts on the experience.
He wrote, "If there's one thing I'm sure of after all this, it's that there was no better person to go through that storm with."
He also celebrated his first month of marriage. He wrote, "On April 28, we celebrated our first month of marriage. And what can I say to you... we started strong, didn't we? On April 11, we faced probably the cruellest and most savage episode of our lives. But not for a single moment did we stop trusting that it would just be a stone in the road; that, no matter what happened, we would find a way to move forward. And we did."
Lifechanging Shark Attack
He said the shark attack made him realize how fragile life is.
He wrote, "Because there are moments that change you forever. Moments in which you understand how fragile life is, but also the strength one can draw when everything seems to be falling apart."
He also said, "After everything, you realise that there is nothing more valuable than coming home and feeling the love of those who never let go of us."
In response to the post, several people commented on his strength after the shark attack.
One wrote, "How I long to laugh until it hurts with you, to cry from emotion together, and to give you those very, very tight hugs that we're so looking forward to giving you. And thank you for those incredible and unforgettable moments that we will very soon relive. I love you."
Another also commented, "I hug you tightly and I really want to give it to you in person. Stay strong, and hopefully you'll be home soon. We will pray that it happens as soon as possible."
