Lazy Venison Lasagna Recipe

We're always on the lookout for excellent recipes we can whip up to incorporate wild game into our meals. This incredibly easy, or even lazy, recipe for venison lasagna will have you licking your chops. It's the sort of dish you won't have to labor over, and can count on it being fulfilling for the whole family. Plus, it's an excellent way to bring venison to the table, which is a big part of why we hunt in the first place.

Lazy Venison Lasagna Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Venison
  • 1/2 lb Ground Italian Sausage (Hot or Sweet)
  • 1/2 Yellow Onion, diced
  • 2 Cloves Garlic, minced
  • 3.5 cups Water
  • 24 oz Marinara
  • 1 16 oz package Mafalda or Farfelle pasta
  • 15 oz. Ricotta
  • 1 cup Spinach, packed
  • 8 oz. pkg Mozzarella Pearls
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp Italian season
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tablespoon parlsey, chopped, for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon basil, chopped, for garnish

Lazy Venison Lasagna Cooking Instructions

1. In a large pot over medium high heat, add oil. Once the oil is hot, add in onion sauté for three minutes. Add in venison and Italian sausage and season with salt and pepper to taste, then add the other seasonings. Cook until venison and sausage is just browned, breaking it up into smaller pieces as it cooks, approximately 8 minutes.

2. Add garlic and cook for one minute, until fragrant.

3. Add in the Marinara and 3 1/2 cups water and bring to a boil. Add the pasta, then partially cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is al dente, about 15 minutes.

4. Stir in the mozzarella balls, spinach and 3/4 of the ricotta. Cook until spinach is wilted and cheese has begun to melt.

5. Place spoonfuls of ricotta around the top of the dish, cover to allow the ricotta to melt slightly, approximately two minutes.

6. Serve immediately, garnished with parsley and basil, if desired.

Yield: 6 servings
