Intense Video Shows Hunters Rescuing Whitetail Buck From Frozen Lake

A couple of Pennsylvania hunters rescue a whitetail buck from a frozen lake.

In a dramatic series of events, two Pennsylvania deer hunters rescue a whitetail deer from a frozen lake. No, these deer hunters weren't trying to kill the buck. On the contrary, these noble hunters wanted to see this young buck live another day.

Josh David and Ed Schmalzle spotted the eight-point buck nearly 100 yards from the shore. The buck, stuck on Greeley Lake, struggled to get on its feet, but to no avail. The two men began their rescue mission on the ice. This happened just two days before hunting season began.

"He must have made it out that far, slipped and fell, and couldn't get back up," rescuer Josh Davis told WNEP.

Schmalzle began slowly across the frozen ice in a small boat while holding a rope to corral the whitetail deer. He tied the deer and was towed back to land. Meanwhile, photographer Jeff Sidle, captured the whole scene.

There's a lot of negative media attention surrounding hunters, warranted and unwarranted. However, this video shows a feel-good story that shines a positive light on hunters.
