'I'll Catch Him!' Australian Man Tries to Rescue Car from Flood with Fishing Rod

Australian man attempts to fish out flooded car with fishing rod.

Melbourne, Australia has seen some pretty nasty flooding in recent weeks. And with it have come a few unfortunate incidents with cars.

That's how this guy ended up attempting to fish out a car that doesn't heed warnings of high water... with his fishing pole! It's something that could have only happened in Australia.

The street had been blocked off by the police, but when they had to leave momentarily, well, that was all the time that was needed for another car to accidentally take the plunge. The man with the fishing rod is Paris Jordanou.

And funny enough, the guy is being hailed as a hero to some for his efforts in trying to rescue the vehicle. "I've had people ask me if I want to be Australian of the Year, or PM," he told the Today Show.

Nothing I see out of Australia surprises me anymore. This is the same place where crocodiles attack people in tents, spiders eat mice and fishermen shoo off sharks with a push broom.
