GLOCK G44 .22 LR Compact Pistol Announced, Coming January 20

Here's the early info on the brand new GLOCK G44 .22 LR compact pistol, a first in the caliber for the popular gun company.

Referred to as "legendary news" by the gun maker, the announcement of the new GLOCK G44 has landed in anticipation of its official release on January 20, 2020 at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas.

The gun is a .22 LR rimfire pistol, utilizing the smaller caliber ammo and becoming a sought-after handgun for new shooters, seasoned marksmen looking for a plinker, and plenty of markets in between.

These new GLOCK pistols have no listed MSRP yet, but our colleagues over at TheTruthAboutGuns.com speculate it will be around $400.

The New GLOCK G44 Pistol

The G44 comes with adjustable rear sights and two load-assist magazines, plus replaceable backstraps to fit most hand sizes.

And, as a small surprise, the G44 has an optional threaded barrel that's sold separately.

The short GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) keeps the overall length down to 7.28 inches on this compact pistol, and the lightweight "hybrid steel" slide (with front serrations) is made of five pieces combining steel and polymer, making it easy to control with less felt recoil.

The G44 comes with a ghost hole loaded chamber indicator as well.

The G44 will get added to GLOCK's impressive lineup of handguns, and by our predictions, land somewhere on the edges of the interest spectrum: enthusiasts will be pumped to have another GLOCK to shoot, or they'll be unimpressed and see little use for a .22 LR from a brand that's never done it before.

We'll reserve full opinions until we have a chance to shoot it, but initially it seems like a smart move. Diversification and variety is worthwhile in today's gun industry, and we can see these moving off shelves pretty swiftly.

It's basically modeled after the G19, GLOCK's iconic handgun, meaning there can't be a whole lot to dislike.
