A giraffe is on the loose in Texas.
The animal, which is named Gracie, disappeared from her property in Leakey, Texas. Cedar Hollow Ranch confirmed the animal was missing to Fox 7 Austin. Real County Animal Rescue-Shelter revealed that the giraffe has been missing for weeks with her last appearance on a game camera.
"The Cedar Hollow Ranch is missing a Giraffe named 'Gracie.' She has rounded ears. Last seen on a game camera west of Leakey. The owner is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the capture and safe return of Gracie the Giraffe," the "LOST GIRAFFE" post from the Real County Animal Rescue-Shelter reads.
Giraffe on the Loose
The ranch has housed giraffes for decades. It's not the first time one has escaped, but Gracie has been missing for weeks, leading to concern for the animal's health.
"We released her into the canyon. She actually started going up and feeding in an area we'd never had giraffes feed in before. It's up on a rock slab, just a limestone slab. And he goes up the hill and went up over the mountain," said Jones. "I just thought whatever some of the locals out on the ranches, people that work on some of these ranches might would see it and or hear about it and give me an idea, you know, which way she might have gone. You know, 24 hours later, it's all over the world."
So far, the giraffe remains missing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gracie. Here's hoping that she returns to safety soon.
