Some dog breeds need a little extra grooming to maintain their gorgeous coats.
Pet owners know that while quick baths can be done at home, some dog breeds need grooming. Dog's coats have a number of different grooming needs that go beyond daily brushing. For example, pooches with double coats can't always get by with regular brushing and combing. Double coats mean coat blow, and the grooming that comes along with it. Dog owners who know and love these thick undercoat pups know that they need to visit a professional groomer every now and then.
Groomers can get out any tangles that can pop up in these high-maintenance pups' coats, plus professional grooming takes care of some of the more difficult tasks like nail trimming. Groomers will also take care of some of the more unpleasant tasks, like expressing your pup's glands and taking the clippers to your pup's paws and back end.

12 Dog Breeds That Need Grooming
1. Bichon Frise
Bichon Frise need plenty of attention, and their coats could use some love too. These pups have hair instead of fur, and it can get quite matted if their owners are not giving them some daily attention. So, even though they have short coats, a monthly dog grooming trip should be penciled in on the calendar to keep these pooches looking their best.
2. Poodles
Your poodle's grooming schedule depends on how you want them to look. For example, if you want them to have long hair, they will need to visit their favorite groomer every couple of weeks. But, if you shave their coat, also known as a kennel cut, they will need to visit their groomer less, and weekly brushing will suffice for a little while.
3. Samoyeds
Samoyeds are full of fluffy white fur. These double-coated pups shed a lot. So it's no surprise to Samoyed owners that these pups need a little extra attention when it comes to grooming. Also, their white coat can get dirty easily, which leads to more frequent bath times.
4. Siberian Husky
There is nothing low maintenance about a Siberian Husky. These big personality pups can shed an awful lot. Even though they are not long-haired dogs, they still need regular grooming to maintain their coats.
5. Lhasa Apso
Formerly Tibetan temple guards, these small pups have long hair and a shiny coat. However, it is a thick double coat and grows quite quickly. Your Lhasa Apso will need a regular trim to keep its locks at a manageable length.

Long-haired Shih Tzu's need their long coats to be brushed daily to prevent them from becoming matted. However, if your Shih Tzu has shorter hair, their routine is a little less rigorous. They only need to be brushed every two to three days. Either way, their curly coats will need some professional attention.
7. Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkies fur can come in a couple of different styles. They can have a smooth coat, or they can be wavy or even spiky. These sweet pups need a lot of attention, so their hair doesn't grow into their faces and take over. Of course, they are small dogs, so grooming is a delicate endeavor. Most Yorkie owners opt to take their pooches to a professional groomer.
8. Cockapoo
Cockapoos are a designer breed created from a cocker spaniel and a poodle. These curly hair pups need a little extra attention around their ears and paws to tame their curls. Some pups may even need a hygiene trim. Flat coat cockapoos do not really shed and are pretty low maintenance, needing a brushing a couple of times a week. Around six to eight months, your curly-haired cockapoo may need a good trim. Baths should be once every one to three months, or as needed if you have a pup that likes to play in the mud.
9. Maltese
Maltese may be a perfect companion dog, but their fur is in a league of its own. They have straight, silky coats that must be brushed daily; otherwise, they will mat. Their hair also grows quickly and needs to be trimmed to not hit the ground. They also are white animals, which means they have a tendency to get dirty very easily. Hopefully, your Maltese likes water because weekly baths are in their future.
10. Komondor
Komondors have a lot of fur. Their corded coat almost looks like dreadlocks and takes some maintenance. They do not need brushing like most other dogs do, but their fur can get dirty easily. Komondor owners need to focus on keeping them clean, especially when their cords are forming.
11. Cocker Spaniel
Cocker Spaniels need a lot of grooming to keep their coats looking silky smooth. Whether they are long-haired or short-haired, they need to be brushed daily and bathed regularly. Cocker Spaniel owners will often trim their hair to keep their beautiful manes under control.
12. Afghan Hound
Afghan Hounds are known for their long, luxurious coats. To keep their hair looking smooth, these pups need to have regular grooming. Potential Afghan Hound owners will be spending a lot of time maintaining their silky coats. This is definitely a dog breed that needs some grooming every now and then.
