Crashed 1987 Porsche 959 Hammers for $425K at Mecum

This damaged Group B supercar will make for a profitable restoration for the buyer.

Mecum always gets some unique and interesting cars crossing the block in Monterey, but one of the most noteworthy going into this year's was an unfortunate 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort that had been crashed. With fees, the buyer left with a damaged 959 for $467,500.

That's actually a pretty good price for one of these cars with Hagerty listing values that range from $650,000 in Fair condition to $1.3 million in Concours condition. Pre-auction estimates from Mecum had this car going for between $450,000 and $550,000.

Judging by the pictures, it doesn't look like the car suffered any serious structural damage, although we'd hate to imagine how hard it is (and how much it costs) for replacement 959 body parts. According to the auction listing, this car's damage was a result of its trailer coming loose from a truck and hitting a tree.

The damage does not show up on the car's title, although this high-profile auction will certainly follow the car. The good news is that it is one of just 294 produced with the Komfort specification, and it only has 3,657 miles on the odometer.
