Cause of Death Revealed For University of Alabama Student

The cause of death has been revealed for a University of Alabama student found dead in Spain. Authorities confirmed that he died by accidental drowning.

Jimmy Gracey went missing earlier this month after leaving a nightclub. Authorities later found his body near a beach close to the beachfront nightclub.

On March 17, he disappeared after leaving the Shôko nightclub in Barcelona. Authorities determined the bruises on the body were consistent with striking rocks in the water for hours. They considered the possibility that he was drugged, but they do not believe this was the case at this point.

Authorities found his wallet near the beach and also recovered his phone from a man who found it on a sidewalk. The University of Alabama student was visiting Barcelona to see some friends. He had been the chaplain of the Alpha Phi Chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity.

"Jimmy was a deeply loved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, and our family is struggling to come to terms with this unimaginable loss," his family wrote.

Meanwhile, his younger brother  also wrote a tribute to him as well.

"I'm gonna miss all the texts and calls about hockey, school, and life in general. I'm not ready to say goodbye to that," he wrote.  "I would do anything to have just one more conversation with you. When I visited you for the first time at bama [sic]  and I ran into your arms is a memory I will cherish forever, thank you for that."

"Thank you for everything. I just can't believe that's all over. I will do my best to pass on your legacy. What a ride dude. I can't wait to see you again in eternal paradise. I love you and fly high, Jimmy," the post concluded.

The toxicology report is still pending for the case.
