Benchmade Announces Versatile New 15006 Steep Country Hunting Knife

Benchmade announces their new 15006 Steep Country

Every hunter needs a good hunting knife to field dress their harvest or cut it up in the field for the long transport back to the truck. Benchmade makes fine knives that are well-suited for just this task and this year they have a late addition to their lineup that is sure to be added to hunter wishlists everywhere.

The 15006 Steep Country has been newly redesigned to be a versatile new fixed blade knife that should fit the needs of many outdoorsmen and women.

Here are all the details on this new release set to go on sale starting on December 8.

This new drop point knife uses a premium quality CPM-S30V steel for the blade. If you're not familiar, it's a hardened stainless steel known for excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance. Both of those things are musts for a good hunting knife. After all, you don't want to be miles deep in the backcountry with a messy field dressing job and a dull blade. Also, who wants to carry a sharpener in the field?

The blade length here is 3.54 inches with a blade thickness of 0.121". This should be ideal for most medium-sized to larger game. At the same time, it's not too big for delicate work on smaller game too. There's a reason Benchmade says this is a "versatile fixed-blade capable of performing throughout any season, on any species." We dig the thinking behind that.

We appreciate the high visibility santoprene handle in a bright hunter orange. That's going to make the blade much easier to find when you're fumbling around in the dark and misplace it while gutting an animal. The handle thickness is 0.58", and it features a lanyard hole to help keep it close. The orange santoprene handle has also got a nice texture to it that's going to be easier to grip when your hands are messy. Keeping the theme of being easy to spot, the boltaron sheath is also a high visibility orange.

Benchmade was clearly keeping the backcountry hunters in mind with this release. It only weighs three ounces, which will make it an absolute joy to carry in your pack. Cutting the weight of your blade will leave more room for other vital pieces of hunting gear. This knife doesn't have a gut hook, but with the quality of steel here, you're probably not going to need it.

Overall, this is a sweet-looking new knife option from Benchmade that's sure to be a great gift idea for the hunter in your life. These knives are also made in the USA, and it's nice to see a company keeping it local. The Benchmade 15006 Steep Country officially goes on sale on December 8.
