Anglers Lucky to be Alive After a Fishing Pole Got Struck by Lightning

Lightning is to blame for a day these anglers will never forget.

Remember your mom always telling you not to play in the rain as a kid? There's a good reason for that. A normal day of fishing ended up nothing of the sort. In fact, it's a story that's almost hard to believe. A group of anglers were fishing near Juniper, Florida when a lightning storm set in. That's when things got hairy.

A sudden bolt of lightning happened to find its way to one of the group's fishing poles. As you can tell from the pictures, it did some serious damage.

The boat lost power after the strike. Its owner, Billy Alstrom, suggests the boat may be out of commission for a while as a result. We can understand why.
